Oral Antibacterial Agent (Expiration of Validity Period)

Product name
Perilla Seed Extract
Title of invention
Oral antibacterial agent (Expiration of validity period)
Patent number
4112730
Date of filing
February 22, 1999
Date of grant
April 18, 2008
Summary
Problem to be solved: To provide a naturally-derived oral antibacterial agent exhibiting an excellent antibacterial effect against oral bacteria causing caries and periodontal disease, which is widely applicable to various foods and drinks and oral health products, by effectively utilizing an extract from the seeds or leaves of Perilla frutescens crispa or Perilla ocymoides. Solution: The oral antibacterial agent contains polyphenols from the seeds or leaves of Perilla frutescens crispa or Perilla ocymoides as an active component. An alcohol extract from the seeds or leaves of Perilla frutescens crispa or Perilla ocymoides is partitioned into ethyl acetate and water, and the ethyl acetate fraction obtained from the resulting ethyl acetate layer is preferably included as an active component. The seeds of Perilla frutescens crispa or Perilla ocymoides described above are preferably defatted seeds of Perilla frutescens crispa or Perilla ocymoides. Further, the oral antibacterial agent contains luteolin, rosmarinic acid or another derivative thereof as an active component. In addition, the oral antibacterial agent described above is applied to foods and drinks or oral health products.

Lipoxygenase Inhibitor (Expiration of Validity Period)

Product name
Perilla Seed Extract
Title of invention
Lipoxygenase inhibitor (Expiration of validity period)
Patent number
4231559
Date of filing
April 23, 1997
Date of grant
December 12, 2008
Summary
Problem to be solved: To provide a naturally-derived lipoxygenase activity inhibitor exhibiting excellent inhibitory effects against the 5-lipoxygenase and 12-lipoxygenase involved in arachidonic acid metabolism, which can prevent and treat diseases such as allergic diseases and inflammation, as well as circulatory system diseases and cancer metastasis. Solution: The lipoxygenase inhibitor contains luteolin or chrysoeriol as an active component. Further, the lipoxygenase inhibitor is obtained by formulating an alcohol extract of Perilla ocymoides seeds containing one or two or more compounds selected from luteolin, chrysoeriol, rosmarinic acid, rosmarinic acid methyl ester, and apigenin. In addition, the lipoxygenase inhibitor is obtained by partitioning the alcohol extract described above into ethyl acetate and water and then formulating the ethyl acetate fraction obtained from the resulting ethyl acetate layer. The Perilla ocimoides seeds described above are preferably defatted Perilla ocymoides seeds. Perilla frutescens crispa seeds may be used in place of the Perilla ocymoides seeds described above.
