2-1New Purple Tea Developed for Africa’s Independence
Kenya leads the world in the volume of exported black tea and is number three in the world in terms of
production volume, making it a global leader in the black tea business.
(Note: 2017 International TEA Committee)
"The tea industry, which supports the livelihoods of 3 million people (7% of Kenya’s total population),
is unstable due to the instability of the yield of tea leaves, the declining prices, and low added
value, which lowers the level of income the farmers receive. Moreover, another challenge is the fact
that 90% or more of Kenya’s production volume is tea, which means that excessive supplies reduce the
price of tea leaves and the price is directly affected by the exchange rate.
In order to improve this situation, initiatives are being taken to diversify production by adding more
high value-added products. One such initiative is by the Tea Research Foundation of Kenya (TRFK), which
has spent 25 years developing “purple tea” with a desire to see Kenya independent. We at Oryza Oil & Fat
Chemical are paying attention to the high number of polyphenols purple tea has. By discovering a
superior functionality, we are committed to improving the added value of purple tea even further. We
want to support Africa in this manner by connecting these efforts to expand the appeal of purple tea.
This initiative of ours with purple tea has received the support of the Embassy of Kenya."

2-2 Supporting Project 1: Education Support for Children with Disabilities, Overcoming Discrimination and Learning Together
Current Situation
In Togo, there remains a strong cultural stigma associated with disabilities, leading to children with disabilities often being hidden within families or bullied in their communities. Furthermore, school facilities are inadequate, and teaching methods for children with disabilities have not been introduced.
As a result of these circumstances, many children with disabilities are deprived of the opportunity to receive an education without ever attending school. Therefore, there is a need to promote "inclusive education" that respects diversity.
Inclusive education refers to an environment where all children, regardless of their disabilities, wealth, or whether they live in urban or rural areas, can learn without discrimination.
Main Initiatives
✓ Improvement of the learning environment through the renovation of classrooms, toilets, and water supply facilities in elementary schools, and the installation of ramps
✓ Training for teachers and parents
✓ Awareness-raising in the community

Note: Support details may change with the ending of the project.
2-3 Supporting Project 2: Protect Girls from Customs that Lead to Death
Current Situation
Female genital mutilation (FGM), a practice that has been ongoing for approximately 2,000 years in about 30 countries in Africa and the Middle East.
Statistics show that, in Ethiopia, 74% of women aged 15 to 49 have had the operation—this is one country with the highest percentage. It is often erformed in unhygienic environments with no anesthetic, and not only does it cause infection and is harmful to childbirth, but also it has led to death in girls due to severe pain and bleeding.
Main Initiatives
✓ Care for girls who have undergone FGM and are suffering physically and mentally.
✓ Bring about awareness through local media and provide training for boys and girls.
✓ Enhance the administrative capabilities and build a network for those concerned to ensure that
people act in accordance with the law that bans FGM.

Note: Support details may change with the ending of the project.
2-4 Build a Society Where Woman Have the Confidence to Live as Women
In order to promote the “Purple Tea, Africa Support Project” to a wide audience, Oryza Oil & Fat Chemical asked NPO Doooooooo to make 500 purses using African fabric, providing five days of labor for five associates. It was reported that it was an income of 10,000 yen/five days per person (garment makers in Ghana make about 5,000 yen a month).
In Ghana, this is what we can do with 10,000 yen.
✓ We can provide 330 meals with enough nutrients to our children.
✓ 10 people can join a health insurance for one year.
✓ We can obtain 150 days-worth of safe drinking water.
