Oryza Oil & Fat Chemical’s SDGs Declaration
Our corporate philosophy is to “realize the health and beauty of the people of the world.”
Based on “Oryza Oil & Fat Chemical’s Five Codes of Conduct,” we seek to make this corporate philosophy a reality through researching natural ingredients, starting with rice.
Through our business activities, we plan to contribute to the achievement of SDGs by being aware of the challenges shared by the entire organization. By endeavoring to solve these challenges with specific actions, we strive to create a sustainable future along with all of the stakeholders.
What are SDGs? “SDGs” is short for “Sustainable Development Goals.” They are international goals to be achieved by 193 country members of the United Nations from 2016 to 2030. They were adopted at the September 2015 UN Summit.
-
We procure raw material from underpopulated regions in Japan and regions overseas that are said to be poor, and we do so while focusing particularly on fair trade.
-
We endeavor to utilize natural resources and unused resources in food as our business. We focus on suppliers in neighboring regions, and we support the stable production of our staple food, rice, in particular.
-
We pour our heart and soul into developing products that contribute to health using the power of nature, manufacturing products that are GMO-free, allergen-free, and Halal certified for the global market. Furthermore, we provide a workplace environment that is easy for senior citizens, people with disabilities, and employees who are suffering from an illness to work in. We have also enacted a company-wide no-smoking policy, which makes for a health-conscientious workplace.
-
We receive local junior high school students as a place where they can experience what a workplace is like, and we provide opportunities for work and dietary education. We have set up a dedicated observation course in our plant so that all business associates and students can observe our plant.
-
We provide an environment that is easy for women and senior citizens to work in, and we prohibit discriminatory treatment due to sex or nationality with regards to employment and raises. We actively appoint female managers and promote part-time employees to full-time employees.
-
We strictly enforce water quality analysis and equipment inspections that can be monitored regularly, and we are planning on switching over to advanced wastewater treatment equipment.
-
We use highly efficient gas boilers that reduce the amount of CO2 emitted. We are looking into using reusable packaging materials once we have confirmed their safety toward the products. For data, we have reduced the amount of paper we use, and paper that we no longer need is recycled.
-
We have put into practice a workplace where anyone can thrive, regardless of sex or age. We have provided shorter working hours for the generation who needs time to raise their children and teleworking.
-
We utilize the latest knowledge and technology in our product development, collecting information from around the world. Not only is the accumulation of analysis data spanning many years reflected in our research and development, but also in our product creation as the amount of experience we have attained. We are actively promoting technological cooperation with our partners, both in Japan and abroad.
-
We actively recruit overseas talent, and we communicate information in several languages. We are also striving for more Halal certified products in our lineup. We offer the world a wide range of products.
-
We cherish our cooperation and harmony with the local community, and we pour our effort into creating jobs primarily here. We offer our company parking lot as an emergency evacuation site for local residents and our head office premises as a place where the local community can have emergency drills.
-
Our company possesses advanced equipment that can handle product development, analysis, and manufacturing. We promote the suppression of excess inventory and the use of materials that have little effect on the environment. We try not to discard any of the residue left after the extraction process, reusing it in fertilizer and feed.
-
We are working on switching over to air conditioning equipment that emits little CO2 and cold storage and freezing containers that use refrigerants with low global warming potential.
-
In addition to controlling industrial water properly, we have introduced an advanced wastewater treatment system and properly control our solvents and reagents to further reduce waste.
-
We have eliminated the use of Ingredients and product creation that cause deforestation, and we strive to not use excess materials. We have also taken the initiative to recycle natural products after use as much as possible by recycling them into fertilizer and returning them to the earth.
-
As one item in our company’s own code of conduct, we “conduct business impartially and sincerely.”
-
We are aware of strengthening our industry-academic-government partnerships on a global level. We have taken the initiative to conduct joint research with universities in Japan and overseas as well as develop new ingredients and products through cooperating with local companies. So that we can communicate the fruits of these initiatives to each country in the world, we are striving for the international technology exchange and communication of information. One way of spreading the word is supporting the philosophy of the International Conference on Rice Bran Oil (ICRBO), where we have taken the initiative to promote the expansion of the industries of rice bran oil and rice-derived functional material as a sponsor company.
While we deepen our ties with existing suppliers in Japan and overseas, we will continue to maintain our stance of not doing business with anti-social forces.
