Put two brands with different claims on the market, one with Oryza Oil & Fat Chemical’s first lactic acid bacteria as the raw material, and one with kuzu lactic acid bacteria. “ImmunoRise Lactic Acid Bacteria™” has an immunostimulative and infection risk-lowering effect, and “SkinBarrier Lactic Acid Bacteria®” has a skin moisture/barrier function improving effect.

During World War II, Japan could not import canola oil or soybean oil from overseas, so the focus shifted to oil contained in rice bran, Japan’s nationally produced resource. The manufacture of rice bran oil became a national policy business.
Oryza means “rice” in Latin. Operations were relocated from Kasamatsu-cho, Hashima-gun, Gifu Prefecture to Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture, and the Ichinomiya Plant was completed in 1964. A test run was started at the Ichinomiya Plant in June of the same year. In July, shipments had begun of four products: salad oil, refined oil, tempura oil, and specially made tempura oil.
The low temperature extraction method (NEM) is a method for extracting oil at a lower temperature than that traditionally used for solvents, preventing the degradation and coloration of oils and fats due to heat. Due to this, unneeded components are not extracted, which not only allows for higher-quality oil to be produced, but also significantly reduces the generation of air pollution that is harmful to the environment. Before this discovery, Aichi Prefecture had been regulating drainage on a large scale due to ground subsistence and required one-fifth of the current water usage. The development of NEM caused a significant revision in manufacturing methods, which resulted in clearing the drainage regulations and further improving manufacturing efficiency.
The distillation deoxidation method (NRM) is a method by which oils and fats are generated in a very high vacuum environment, which allowed for a significant reduction in the number of chemical substances conventionally used in refinement. By introducing this technology, Oryza was able to make a product out of the bioactive component “gamma-oryzanol,” which exists only in rice bran oil specifically.
At that time, the government and municipalities had begun to set policies for subsidizing the development of ingredients that contribute to health. In order to search for business other than rice bran oil that would become the pillar of company, Oryza conducted full-blown research and development of functional materials. It determined the policy of developing one product per year.
Another health food boom kicked off in the early 2000s, and since market needs increased exponentially, Oryza developed new products and bring them to market within a half-year to one-year time frame, unlike other companies in the industry which typically take three to five years to do so. Oryza held an R&D conference once per month, developing products at a rapid pace.
